About

This session we will explore if and how climate risks are impacting home insurance costs in the US. Understanding these trends and implications for the US mortgage and housing markets will be key in 2026. We will also cover key insights from the Intercontinental Exchange's (ICE) 10Y study into rising insurance costs as well as investor perspectives regarding this emerging risk.

Background

The cost of home insurance in the United States rose by about 89% between 2014 and 2025, as rapidly climbing home prices, more frequent extreme weather events, and inflation impacted insurers and homeowners.

Understanding these trends and their impact on the US mortgage and housing markets will be vital in 2026. The Intercontinental Exchange has some of the most comprehensive home insurance data in the US.

During the session, we will discuss key insights from their recent 10-year study into rising insurance costs, including the role of inflation, hazard deductible selection, coverage amounts, and state regulation, and how investors are currently thinking about these issues across their real estate portfolios.
