From Intent to Impact: US SIF Marks Earth Day with Final Advisor Guide to Scale Sustainable Investing

Press Release
21 April 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 22, 2026 — The US Sustainable Investment Forum today announced the release of the final installment of its Financial Advisor Roadmap Series titled, “Connect – Engaging Clients, Advocacy & Professional Networks.”The series is a three-part educational initiative designed to equip financial advisors with the tools, confidence, and strategies needed to integrate sustainable investing into their practices.

Timed with Earth Day, the release underscores the critical role financial professionals play in aligning investment strategies with long-term environmental and social outcomes.

“Earth Day is a reminder that some capital allocation decisions are no longer abstract—they can directly shape environmental and social outcomes,” said Maria Lettini, CEO of US SIF. “Financial advisors sit at a critical junction between investor intent and real-world impact. This series is designed to close the gap between demand for sustainable investing and the industry’s ability to deliver it—giving advisors the tools to translate client values into measurable, long-term outcomes.”

The Roadmap Series was developed to address a persistent gap in the financial services industry: while investor demand for sustainable investing continues to grow, many advisors report needing more practical guidance to confidently implement ESG strategies and communicate their value to clients.

With the release of Part III, US SIF completes a comprehensive framework that guides advisors through the full sustainable investing journey, from foundational knowledge to real-world application and client engagement.

Part III focuses on one of the most critical—and often overlooked—areas of sustainable investing: how to effectively communicate with clients about ESG goals and integrate those conversations into long-term advisory relationships.

Advisors will gain practical guidance on:

  • Navigating client conversations around sustainability

  • Addressing common misconceptions and concerns

  • Aligning investment strategies with client values and financial goals

  • Participating in shareholder advocacy and impact opportunities

  • Building connections within the broader sustainable investing ecosystem

“Advisors are the gateway to sustainable investing,” said Jennifer Coombs, Head of Content & Development at US SIF and author of the series. “The Roadmaps are designed for advisors who want to engage but need practical, real-world guidance. Part III brings everything together by showing how to turn knowledge into meaningful client relationships and real-world impact.”

The Financial Advisor Roadmap Series is part of US SIF’s broader mission to advance sustainable investing through education, research, and collaboration. The series was developed with input from industry experts and is available for free to download on the US SIF website in order to support widespread adoption across the financial services industry. The series includes:

  • Part I: Learn — Foundations of sustainable investing, ESG concepts, and client motivations

  • Part II: Apply — ESG data, portfolio construction, and identifying greenwashing risks

  • Part III: Connect — Client communication, shareholder advocacy, and professional engagement

Despite political and regulatory headwinds, sustainable investing remains a significant and growing part of the U.S. financial landscape, with trillions of dollars in assets incorporating ESG considerations and strong long-term investor commitment.
